Welcome!

The Washington Flanders Club (WFC) is the Washington DC area’s affiliate of Vlamingen in de Wereld (VIW), a Belgian organization representing Flemish people all over the world.

Founded in 1994, it is our club’s objective to help Flemish expats feel at home in their new environment, by facilitating contact with compatriots and supporting them getting settled in and simply having fun together. We also welcome anyone with an interest in Belgium and Flanders, whether in our culture, cuisine, sports or current events.

Our activities

To achieve our goals, we organize a large variety of activities, such as monthly get-togethers (Pot & Pint), a summer BBQ, New Year’s dinner, Easter Egg Hunt, Sinterklaasfeest (in cooperation with the Belgian Embassy in Washington DC and our French-speaking compatriots). Furthermore, we all enjoy hikes, museum visits, scavenger hunts, ice skating, and many more initiatives. Interested in checking out membership? Speaking Flemish is not a requirement! Our monthly “Pot & Pint” gathering usually takes place on the first Friday or Saturday of the month and is a great place to make the first connection, Belgian beer in hand. Our Board (“De Kern”) consists of 10 dedicated and skillful members who take great pleasure in creating good times for our members. President Marc Quintyn enjoys working with the team consisting of Mieke Ghesquière (Treasurer) and, alphabetically, Kimberley Bouckaert, Pat Boydens, Luce De Peuter, Hilde Leclercq, Geert Piferoen, Koen Van Winckel, Helga Verbruggen and Veronique Vercammen. All of us are open to any suggestions you have regarding events to attend, or new activities.
